I’ve already sent out the emails to the appropriate people at SEOmoz thanking them for an awesome “post SMX” event. (Hey Rand, sorry about the double send). Rand and his crew really know how to have fun and throw a party.
I’m sitting here recalling the previous night’s events, the people I met, and the discussions we had. And what i’ve learned is this:
- Even though I’ve been doing this for a while and have had some success, there is so much to learn
- Communication among peers is crucial
- Meeting people involved in Search who focus in different industries is crucial because they’re probably doing something that you should be doing
- There is always someone who knows more than you
I realized that I’ve had my blinders on and that I haven’t taken the time to look up and look at the broad picture of SEO and SEM in a while. I’m glad I’ve realized this now.
On the lighter side, I’ve also learned that a healthy amount of paranoia is appropriate. You never know who could break out their cell phone and record someone doing something funny. There’s nothing more worrisome than hanging out with a couple hundred people that know how to get things found on the net.
