So I was reading a post by Galen over at RCG about a new photo/picture technology called Photosynth. His post led me to a YouTube Video that gave a really good presentation of what it’s all about.
I visited the Photosynth home page and saw a couple issues. Granted, these issues will probably disappear over time as people move from older computer setups to new ones. I see the minimum systems requirements being an issue for the short term due to most casual computer users won’t have the hardware to handle the demands. However, the same argument was probably made during the push to move from dial-up to DSL and Cable.
Also, being a Mac user who runs Parallels, I’m left out in the cold for the foreseeable future. This is irritating and I hope that Microsoft doesn’t just say “f-you” to the Mac users of the world.
As far as the marketing aspects of Photosynth go, I have chills. I’m currently working in the real estate and automotive verticals and see Photosynth as being a visual killer for all things cars, trucks, SUVs, condos, and homes.
Just shooting from the hip, I would probably be inclined use Photosynth over video in anything I create. As a consumer, I imagine I would enjoy viewing some new product via Photosynth.
