Keyword research for an automotive themed website is pretty straight forward. You have the dealer’s brand name (most popular keyword phrase), you have the dealer’s physical location (most common Geo-phrase), and then all the surrounding locations they want to target. On top of the locations, there are other terms like service, maintenance, tires, etc.
So here’s the thing. In order for an auto dealer to create an SEO strategy that revolves around quality content that’s relevant and provides a good user experience, there needs to be some very strategic planning. How many pages is your website going to be comprised of? Within those pages, which keywords are you going to target for which page? The biggest challenge is deciding how many geographic areas you can include on one page while staying competitive. I can’t tell you how many car dealer’s SEO strategy used the exact same titles, keywords, and meta descriptions I’ve seen and had to clean up.
So back to the case at hand. Automotive keyword research. Hmmm. I think the best thing to do for now is just to write content freely and without too much focus on the dealer’s brand name and keyword combinations. The components of a page that need to be focused on are the Title and Internal Linking Structure when it comes to deciding where to include keywords. That’s it.
